The Percussion Sequencer has the mind of a modern drum machine. It is a 4 channel, 32 step sequencer with adjustable sequence length designed for live performance. Tweak and adjust patterns on the fly without ever needing to stop the beat. Additionally you can create and store up to 32 sequences using live performance and step mode recording with varying lengths between 1 to 32 steps. The Percussion Sequencer also allows you to record a new sequence by using the touch pad to edit the pattern of one channel at a time. Each keypad represents one step of the pattern and conveniently the tapped performance is quantised to the nearest beat so there is no need to worry about being perfectly on time. The Percussion Sequencer is driven by an internal tap tempo or external clock source with a dedicated in/out jack to sync with external modules. Any pattern can also be copy and pasted to easily create multiple versions of a beat.
The Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms Percussion Sequencer comes fitted with built in percussion tuned analog envelope and VCA on each channel allowing you to patch in any sound source. Anything from a basic sine wave to a heavily modulated and processed noise source can be turned quickly into a distinctive drum kit.
The Percussion Sequencer comes equipped with 6 unique pattern effects for expanding musical possibilities including shift, glitch, density, morph, swing, add/drop. Effects such as swing and beat shifters allow for movement in your sequences. Each channel runs a unique instance of one pattern effect at a time and a master pattern effect channel is available to affect 4 channels of the sequencer. The combinations of the channel effect and master effect allows for up to 2 effects at one time on each channel. Each of the effects has a parameter that can be adjusted to dial in the preferred amount.
The 6 pattern effects all have their unique way of switching up and modifying your beat sequence. The first is Shift Effect which delays the trigger output by small divisions resulting in a half-step or stutter-step effect. Each knob controls the amount of channel shift by either 1/8th, to 7/8ths of a beat. Glitch Effect is a probability based glitch effect creating chaotic gates that are always synced with some division of the clock. The effect knob changes the range of the glitch from minimal to maximum chaos resulting in completely transformed sequences. Next there is the Density Effect which sets the number and timing of triggers created for each step from anything between double of the trigger to a rolling effect. Morph Effect creates evolving patterns by adding or removing active steps from the sequence. Swing Effect creates swing recreating the feel of a real with drummer with slight shifting in timing of every other step. Finally there is the Add/Drop Effect which temporarily adds or drops steps from your pattern, ideal for creating slightly varied sequences in a live performance.
