About Snare Drums

The snare drum is arguably the most essential part of any drum kit setup. They owe their distinct cracking sound to the snares themselves – snares are metal strains or wires that are stretched across the bottom skin of the drum.

Snares are typically made from Steel, Brass, Bronze or Wood in order to achieve different tonal characteristics. Use of different snare heads and tunings also play an important role in the overall sound and tone of a snare drum.
