Compact Desktop Analog Synth

The Doepfer Dark Energy 2 Synthesizer is ideal for a range of sound-design capabilities. The streamlined design is perfect for creating anything from cutting-edge basslines that will push through any mix, to Sawtooth-style leads and everything in-between. The monophonic stand-alone design features a Sawtooth based VCO core. The synthesizer is comprised of a VCO core with a single VCF, dual LFOs, ADSR envelope, USB/MIDI interface and a wide range of versatile connectivity. The streamlined design and in-depth modulation control allows you to achieve a wide range of tones and sounds. The 100 percent analog circuitry ensures you capture that vintage-style warmth and grit, associated with classic synthesizers.

Sawtooth-Based VCO Core

The Sawtooth VCO core provides you with a high-grade oscillator with manual tune control as well as FM c(frequency modulation) control with modulation source switch. It also provides you with PWM and manual Pulse Width control for added flexibility. The premium-grade potentiometers allow you to easily change the style and shape of your sound, with extreme precision. The waveform is the sum chosen by the switch and rectangle, fed into the VCF. The waveform switch allows you to toggle between Sawtooth, Off, Clipped and Inverted Sawtooth settings.

VCF & VCA

Also included in the Dark Energy II’s design is a 12dB multimode filter with LP, Notch, HP and BP settings for optimal versatility. The multimode filter is accompanied by controls for the frequency, mode settings and resonance. This filter allows you to further change the shape of the oscillator, allowing you to experiment with the way the sound is sculpted. It also features a tracking switch with half/off/full settings, which is also internally connected to the external frequency CV input of the VCO. The VCA section provides you with manual amplitude control, working as an initial gain control. It also features an AM (amplitude modulation) control, complete with a modulation source switch (LFO1/Off/ADSR). The exponential scale also features an external CV input for VCA amplitude, allowing you to change the way the amplitude reacts with external equipment.

Dual Powerful LFOs

The Doepfer Dark Energy 2 Synthesizer also features dual, powerful LFOs. These LFOs are great for changing the overall tone and style of your sound. It features a manual frequency control and waveform switch, allowing you to further shape the tone. The waveform switch features three settings comprised of: Triangle, Off and Rectangle. The low frequency oscillators are ideal for adding beef to your sound, and perfect for creating bass-orientated sounds. The LFOs also feature a range switch, which you can toggle between low, audio and medium settings. The LFO1 signal is also available as an additional socket, using the LFO1 signal for external modules.

ADSR & USB/MIDI Interface

The Dark Energy 2 Synthesizer also boasts a high-end ADSR envelope section for shaping the way your oscillators react. Potentiometers are included for Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release settings; giving you full control over dynamics of your sound. It also features a 3-setting range switch including: long, short and medium settings. One of the most unique features of the Dark Energy 2 is the integrated USB/MIDI interface. This premium-grade interface allows you to easily integrate the synthesizer into your studio setup, ideal for music producers. The MIDI channel and reference note can be adjusted by the means of a learn button and LED at the rear of the unit. The interface boasts three CVS and the gate signals is also available on the rear as jack sockets.

CV & Other Connectivity

As well as the built-in USB/MIDI interface, the synth also boasts a wide range of analog connectivity including a myriad of CV I/O & external connections. It features a wide range of CV connectivity in the form of monophonic 3.5mm jack sockets. CV connections are available for the VCO frequency, VCO pulsewidth, VCF frequency, VCA amplitude and more. It also provides with MIDI I/O, ideal for connecting to external equipment such as electronic keyboards, sequencers and more. The rear of the unit also features four additional CV sockets, with the CV4 socket doubling up as an audio output.
