Key Features
The Analogue Systems RS-510e EMS Trapezoid Generator is a remake of the EMS VCS3 Shaper, combining the elements of the contour generator and VCA in the VCS3 and Synthi. The RS-510e is a unique modulator that can be used as a trapeze or triangle shape LFO, and an attack-hold-decay envelope generator. However, the RS-510e provides a unique character different to other contour generators. The RS-510e Trapezoid Generator generates a four-stage A/ON/D/OFF voltage contour that varies between +5V to 5V and back to +5V again. The Trapezoid Generator provides you with attenuators, allowing you to adjust the amount of attack, on, decay, and off times to your taste.

The RS-510e is the only known officially licensed remake of the Trapezoid Generator from the legendary EMS synths. This module incorporates both elements of the VCS3 Shaper, combining together the contour generator and VCA to produce a module capable of creating sounds and effects that are near to impossible to create on conventional synthesizers. The Analogue Systems RS-510e operates like a traditional envelope generator, but only has 3 stages. These are Attack, On, and Decay, and they form a trapezoid shape on the graph. Instead of having a traditional attack, decay, sustain and release, the RS-510e allows you to adjust how long the contour stays at zero, enabling you to create a pause before the envelope generates again.
The RS-510e EMS Trapezoid Generator features attenuators that control the time of the Attack, On, Decay, and Off parameters, ranging between short and long to achieve different results. The Off parameter can determine the amount of time until the envelope can be re-triggered. A short time can make the unit loop, enabling it to act as an LFO. The Off knob can perform 2 functions. When set to the furthest clockwise position (MANUAL), the knob allows you to use the module as a contour generator, whereby each gate pulse initiates a new A/ON/D cycle. When the Off knob is set to any other position, the trapezoid generator repeats and acts like an LFO.
