Usage Examples

The Doepfer A-143-2 is perfect for any kind of modulation where EGs are used/required. For example, the module can use the first EG as an LFO/master clock. This is done by patching the End of D output to a multiple module, followed by patching the multiple's outputs into the gate inputs of each sub-module of the A-143-2. The ADSR controls can be used to define the frequency, shape, and lower level of the LFO signal. The End of D output works as a master gate signal in this example.

The A-143-2 can also by used to cyclically trigger envelope generators. The End of Decay output of each unit can be patched to the gate input of the succeeding unit. The End of Decay output of the fourth unit can then be patched to the gate input of the first unit. If instead of this connection, an external gate signal is connected to the gate input of unit 1, the 'sequenced' envelopes can be synchronized to this signal.

Controls & Indicators

These controls are present independently for each sub-module/envelope generator.

• Range: Range switch for toggling between the envelope length. Available options are - Low, Medium, High. These times can range from anywhere between mere milliseconds up to several minutes
• Attack: Control for adjusting the Attack parameter of the envelope
• Decay: Control for adjusting the Decay parameter of the envelope
• Sustain: Control for adjusting the Sustain parameter of the envelope
• Release: Control for adjusting the Release parameter of the envelope
• LED: LED that provides visual feedback regarding the envelope signal

Inputs/Outputs

These I/Os are present independently for each sub-module/envelope generator.

• G: This is the gate input. The gate inputs of sub-modules 2 to 4 are normalled to the gate input of unit 1. If one common gate signal has to be used for all four units, this signal must be patched into the gate input of sub-module 1. As soon as a plug is inserted into the gate input of 2, 3, or 4, the default connection is interrupted for the sub-module in question
• End of A: Digital output that indicates the end of the attack phase. As soon as the attack phase ends, the End of A digital output turns 'high.' This output can be used to trigger other A-100 modules synchronized to the ADSR envelope generated by the A-143-2
• End of D: Digital output that indicates the end of the decay phase. As soon as the decay phase ends, the End of D digital output turns 'high.' This output can be used to trigger other A-100 modules synchronized to the ADSR envelope generated by the A-143-2
• End of R: Digital output that indicates the end of the release phase. As soon as the release phase ends, the End of R digital output turns 'high.' This output can be used to trigger other A-100 modules synchronized to the ADSR envelope generated by the A-143-2
• Rt: This is the retrigger input. The retrigger inputs of each sub-module are not normalled to each other
• ADSR Out: This is the output for the sub-module/envelope generator, from which the generated envelope is available
