Vintage-Style Snare Drum Synthesis

The Hexinverter Mutant Snare (13HP) is a compact yet powerful snare synthesizer generator module. The Hexinverter Mutant Snare Module provides you with a wide range of in-depth modulation control and patch points for creating vintage-style snares. You can achieve everything from classic-style electro, to metallic and alien-like percussion. At the heart of the module is the Mix and Drive setting. The Mix allows you to blend between the Shell and Snappy circuits, to create the overall sound. The Drive circuit allows you to overdrive the snare tones with intense harmonics. It comes complete with a purple LED indicator, that shows when the snare begins to overdrive. The signal level has all been normalised for modular level I/O for added convenience.

'Shell' Emulates Drum Skins

One of the most unique features of the Mutant Snare module is the 'Shell' circuit. This specialised circuit is comprised of analog bridged-t sinewave, allowing you to achieve natural and organic sounding tones. It designed to emulate the sound of different drum skins, using the Tone control to blend between the two sinewaves for interesting results. The Shell Pitch control allows you to tune one of the sine waves, changing the overall pitch of the snare drum.

Snappy Noise Generator Circuit

Another useful feature that adds to the texture and style of the sound is the Snappy noise generator. The ‘Snappy’ section is comprised of an analog white noise generator, feeding the circuit. The Snappy circuit feeds into an analog selectable HP or BP filter, as well as providing voltage control of the decay levels. An external input within the circuit allow you to patch any source you like into the Snappy circuit. The Snappy noise generator adds more texture to your snare, providing added edge to your tone. It provides voltage control over the filter cutoff frequency, as well as features bipolar attenuators on CV inputs. The filter on the Snappy generator also features three resonance settings including: classic 808 (low resonance), high resonance and self-oscillation.

Versatile Connectivity

As well as including a wide range of in-depth modulation control to shape and sculpt the sound of your snare drum, the module also boasts a wide range of connectivity. The varying patch points including a Trigger and an Accent input allowing you to connect the module to external equipment such as drum trigger pads and more. There are also dual CV inputs with dedicated attenuators as well as a dedicated output. The small size (13HP) is ideal for space conscious modular user. The Eurorack-compatible design is ideal for smaller modular synthesizers.

• When nothing is plugged into the cutoff CV input, the SNAPPY envelope OR the adjustable sinewave from the SHELL generator normalize through the CV attenuverter for cutoff CV. A jumper on the back of the module allows you to select which of these internal modulation signals are routed here
• Filter has three resonance settings: classic 808 (low resonance), high resonance, and self oscillation
• Bipolar attenuators (aka: 'attenuverters') on CV inputs
