Oktava MK-012-20 Condenser Microphone, Silver Overview
A valuable addition to any studio. The Oktava MK-012-20 Condenser Microphone set provides you with the transformerless circuitry that Oktava have become known for implementing within their microphones. This is suited to a range of studio applications, with the ability to perform in high SPL environments. The transformerless circuit also ensures a wide frequency response range, meaning the microphone can successfully capture a range of sound sources.
The set also provides a range of different capsules suited to different studio applications. Three small diaphragm capsules are provided with omni, cardioid and hypercardioid polar patterns. These mean the microphone can be used for a range of applications including close micing amplifiers, vocals and room microphone placements. A large diaphragm capsule also provides an alternative; easily interchangeable on the MK-102 pencil body. Also included is a wooden storage box, -10dB pad and microphone clamp.

Oktava have implemented a popular transformerless circuit in the MK-012. Due to the success achieved in the studio with the MK-012, this circuitry has since been implemented in many other microphones. The transformerless design allows the MK-012 to deliver an uncoloured and clear sound. This also contributes to the MK-102’s extended high and low frequency response. One of the main benefits to implementing a transformerless circuit is the ability to handle much more level without distortion. This makes the MK-102 extremely versatile in its application, suited to both loud and quiet sources. This is further increased when the included -10dB is applied in high SPL environments.
Small diaphragm capsules
The MK-012-20 set provides a variety of capsules that can be used in different recording applications. Three small diaphragm capsules are included with omni, cardioid and hypercardioid polar patterns. Hypercardioid and cardioid capsules are suited to close micing applications used directly at the source. Combined with the MK-012 circuity, vocal and guitar cabinets benefit from this application.
An omni-directional small diaphragm capsule is also included; this can be utilised to capture room noise and ambient recordings. This capsule proves particularly useful when used as drum overheads. The smaller capsules offer excellent transient response, resulting in highly accurate audio recording. Small diaphragm capsules are also capable of capturing a wide frequency response.
Large diaphragm capsule
A large diaphragm cardioid capsule is also included with the MK-012-20. This is ideal for capturing low SPL sound sources as the larger diaphragm is capable of capturing more acoustic energy. The larger diaphragm is also able to perform with lower self-noise, once again a benefit when recording low level sound sources.
